Burning Up The Night

Burning Up The Night

The first novella by SDR Hughes (Fupper) is a companion piece to go with the album of the same name released on Wrong Speed records in 2021 and was released December 2022 via Bandcamp.

‘Burning up the night’ is an exploration of wanderlust and a life in one night.

Two stories in one, indirect echoes of the other.

One

Charlie’s on a journey through a displaced version of his past that plays out under the shadow of a power cut as he wanders through the silent streets on the outskirts of an ever elusive unnamed city that he becomes irrationally determined to reach.

Two

It starts in a shopping cart at night, at the top of a hill, the ocean displayed below.

Under its surface particles dance, awaiting your arrival.

Send Ships Sailing

The second novella by SDR Hughes (Fupper) is a companion piece to go with the album of the same name released on Wrong Speed records in 2022 available through Bandcamp.

‘Send ships sailing’ is an exploration of purpose, vocation and daemon.

Swallow the worm, follow the worm.

Worms within, worms that swim, worms that split, worms over everything. An Island, second to last in the archipelago. A bus stop on a cliff top in the driving rain. A motionless woman below laying face down on a shingle beach. A boat on stilts in a graveyard of vessels, waiting; Sid and Deborah welcome Will within. The town, and the bus that refuses to take Will down to its warehouses that smell of rotten fish and engine oil, and its strip lit pub. Pickled eggs, a yo-yo and the black haired brothers keeping the bald headed town down, down, down; back to the beach, the tractor, the boat, the way back out, and one night to make it count.
